Take responsibility for your learning
Hey guys, it’s time to get back to blogging; I’ve been away too long!
Let’s start with a reminder of the 3Cs of language learning: Continuity – Curiosity – Commitment! Seriously take into consideration these factors as they are fundamental ingredients in learning a language effectively.
You need to take responsibility for your learning. Nobody can make you speak a language fluently. Teachers can guide you, encourage you and correct you but fluency and the amount of time it takes can only depend on you.
How much time do you dedicate a day / a week / a month to learning English? Remember, the more you connect yourself to the language, the faster you will learn. Decide how much time you are willing to dedicate to learning and improving your level. Choose topics that interest you. Choose words and phrases that you need to know or want to know. Listen, read, write, speak and study a little as often as you can. Accumulate new words and phrases and slowly slowly you’ll expand and enrich your vocabulary. Spend quality time – even just 5 minutes at a time – enjoyably connecting to the language you wish to learn. Your confidence will soon grow, you’ll be more motivated and you’ll see the progress you are making yourself.
Don’t worry if you cannot remember new words or phrases immediately, don’t worry if you cannot yet understand everything someone says, don’t worry if you cannot yet say everything you wish to say. Gradually everything will fall into place and become clearer and easier. Remember we always learn everything passively before it becomes part of our active baggage – even in our own native language! Relax, enjoy your learning more, be more patient with yourself and, above all, be proud of yourself for trying – so many people never even start! Just make sure you spend enough time connecting.
